Bio
Lucy Quinatan has been the trainer at Stepinac Sports for past 3 years.
During Lucy’s first year as working as a certified athletic trainer she was covering a freshman football game by herself. During the game, a player from the away team was tackled hard and when he hit the floor his head did a whip lash movement. When she went to go evaluate him, he was very out of it and couldn't remember what happened, where he was, and kept forgetting these details every few seconds. This was the first time she had witnessed someone have memory issues and have severe concussion symptoms on the spot.
However, the most concerned person was the athlete's mom. Lucy was able to speak to her and educate her on concussions as she had no idea or experience dealing with it. She explained to her what a concussion was, home care instruction, red flags to look for, and the do's and don'ts when dealing with a concussion.
“At the time I didn't think anything of it as I was just doing my job but the next day, I was forwarded an email by the principal of the school written by the athlete's mom. She wanted to thank me for my help. She felt like she would have no idea what to do if I didn't , and she appreciated the time I took to make sure her son was all right and rule out red flags in terms of a brain bleed. I was caught off guard by the email, but it made me happy to have made a difference, helped me gain confidence, and appreciate my role as an athletic trainer even more.” -Lucy Quintana hashtag#natamonth hashtag#proPT hashtag#atheltictrainer hashtag#athlete hashtag#athletictraining
